In recent years, the Refugee team has also been formed in Kurash. The International Kurash Association gives them the opportunity to participate officially in International competitions (as a trial).
The IKA Congress, held in Ashgabat in 2023, discussed the refugee community’s legal basis and its implementation’s development.
Refugees are people who have left their country for social, political or other serious reasons.
One such community is the Afghan refugees. About 8 Million Afghan refugees are leaving and working in Iran, and among them are talented Kurash athletes.
Iran Kurash Association currently has a committee of refugees for Afghans, which includes talented Kurash athletes who also train with the Iran National Kurash Teams on different occasions.
On March 21-23, on the occasion of Navruz holiday, a big Kurash competition was held in Shahid Motamedi Stadium in Tehran with the participation of Afghan Kurash athletes in Iran.
According to Asadulla Tajik, the committee’s head, the competition was organized in 7 weight categories, and more than 600 Kurash athletes (MEN) participated.
The stadium’s audience capacity is 4,000 people, but due to the local population’s high level of interest in Kurash, additional viewing areas were necessary.
The International Kurash Association plans to support such competitions in the following years with Kurash uniforms (Yakhtaks) and necessary technical equipment.
