Yesterday there was a meeting between representatives of the International Institute of Kurash and the UNESCO International Martial Arts Center for Youth Development and Engagement.
IKA Secretary General Mohammad Reza Nassiri, IKI Rector Khabibulla Tadjiyev, IKI Education Department teacher, Professor Kim Eurjoong, as well as department heads of the Martial Arts Center Chung Minhee, Han Changi and Jung Manyong took part in the meeting.
The Center of Martial Arts, located in Chungju-si, South Korea, was founded in 2015. Based on the mutual agreement between UNESCO and the government of the Republic of Korea in 2015, the center is currently actively involved in the development of national martial arts, establishing cooperation with international martial arts centers, supporting them, and attracting talented young people.
During the meeting, foreign experts noted that Kurash, as a national martial art of the Uzbek people, is gaining international prestige and authority thanks to its rich traditions, more than three thousand years of history, the uniqueness of the stages of its development, methods and technical rules and their important role in the physical and mental development of young people.
-Although kurash is one of the oldest sports, it is a modern sport that is increasingly developing in international arenas and gaining its name and status, – said Jung Minhee, head of the International Cooperation Department of ICM. Our Center has been cooperating with martial arts centers in many countries under the auspices of UNESCO. Of course, Kurash attracted us with his charm and honesty. We plan to exchange experience with experts in the field of kurash, to attract young and talented kurash players to training courses organized in our center. We hope to establish strong and effective cooperation with the International Kurash Institute.
It was also discussed to start this project in 2024 with two Uzbek sport being Kurash and Uzbek Jangsanati.
