The ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Kholmuhamedov, CISM Secretary General Roberto Recchia, Acting President of the International Kurash Association Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov, IKA Honorary First Vice-President and Minister of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adkham Ikramov, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee Oybek Kasimov, as well as a number of distinguished guests and officials.
The event began with a ceremonial parade of delegations from the 16 countries participating in the competition. The artistic programme featured military and patriotic performances, traditional music and songs, as well as compositions reflecting Uzbekistan’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Officially opening the competition, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Kholmuhamedov emphasised in his speech that Kurash is a national heritage embodying the high values of the Uzbek people, such as courage, bravery and integrity. He also noted that the recognition of Kurash by CISM as an official sport in 2025, as well as the holding of the first-ever World Military Kurash Challenge in Tashkent, is an important event in the history of our national sport.
Following this, Roberto Recchia noted that the competition would serve to further strengthen the position of Kurash within the international military sports system, as well as serve as an important preparation platform ahead of future World Military Games.
Following the opening ceremony, the finals of the first day of the competition were held. In the decisive bouts across six weight categories, the world’s strongest military Kurash athletes competed fiercely for victory.
In particular, bouts involving athletes from Uzbekistan, the homeland of Kurash, took place to sustained applause from the spectators.
At the end of the day, the winners and medallists were awarded, and the names of the first champions of the World Military Kurash Challenge were written into the pages of history.
