A solemn opening ceremony for the “Uzbek Polvoni” and “Prosecutor Polvoni” Kurash competitions was held at a specialised martial arts sports complex located in the Olympic Village of Tashkent.
The event was attended by the IKA General Secretary Mohammad Reza Nassiri, Head of the IKA Administration Mansur Mirzaev, Rector of the International Kurash Institute Khabibulla Tadjiev, First Deputy Chairman of the Kurash Federation of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Kadirov, and Assistant Chairman Sardor Karimov.
Speaking at the ceremony, the General Secretary of the International Kurash Association noted that Kurash is an eternal symbol of courage, fortitude, patience, and patriotism, and emphasised that such traditional competitions contribute to further strengthening the prestige of Kurash.
Another important aspect of this tournament is that, on the initiative of the International Kurash Association and the International Kurash Institute, 16 international referees from 10 countries were invited to Tashkent. During the competition, they will take part in a special seminar and practical training sessions on Kurash refereeing, which will allow them to further improve their skills and gain valuable experience. This, in turn, contributes to the improvement of the training system for international Kurash referees.
For reference, the “Uzbek Polvoni” and “Prosecutor Polvoni” competitions have been held traditionally since 2021. This year, about 200 Kurash athletes from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, and Tashkent are participating in the “Uzbek Polvoni” competition — 4 weight categories for men and 3 for women, for a total of 7 weight categories. In the “Prosecutor Polvoni” competition, about 100 employees of the prosecutor’s office compete in 5 weight categories.
