The 1st CISM World Military Kurash Challenge, held in Tashkent, has officially concluded.
Another important chapter has been added to the history of Kurash. Held for the first time in the homeland of Kurash, this prestigious competition brought together the world’s strongest military Kurash athletes and once again demonstrated the growing role of Kurash within the international military sports community.
On the second day of the competition, the winners and medallists in seven men’s and women’s weight categories were determined. The final bouts were contested at a high level, featuring fierce competition and a number of unexpected results.
One of the most notable highlights of the competition came in the women’s events, where athletes representing Poland and Kazakhstan defeated representatives of the host nation to claim the championship titles.
In the overall team standings, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan took first place, followed by Kazakhstan in second and Iran in third.
Teams representing Poland, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea and Azerbaijan also finished the competition with medals.
At the official closing ceremony, CISM Secretary General Roberto Recchia and Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Norboev addressed the participants and expressed their gratitude to all organisations and partners involved in the successful organisation of this historic competition.
In his speech, Roberto Recchia highlighted the high standard of organisation throughout the competition and noted that the bouts had proved even more exciting and competitive than expected. He also emphasised that Kurash is a sport capable of making a significant contribution to the objectives of the international military sports movement.
The 1st World Military Kurash Challenge was officially brought to a close with a ceremonial military parade and the lowering of the CISM and state flags of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the sound of the anthems.
Hosted by Tashkent, this historic competition has laid a strong foundation for a new stage in the development of Kurash within the international military sports system.
