IKA PRESS RELEASE

An IKA Directing Committee (DC) meeting was held via Zoom on 25 August 2026. The meeting was chaired by the Acting President of the International Kurash Association (IKA) Mr Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov , with the majority of IKA DC members in attendance.

The main agenda item was “Eligibility of Athletes (Ranking System) – Asian Games.”
The Acting President proposed that a preliminary decision be adopted for the upcoming Nagoya Asian Games, while a comprehensive and well-studied proposal would subsequently be prepared and submitted to the IKA Congress for consideration and approval.

Following discussion, the IKA DC unanimously approved that athletes who are not ranked within the Top 100 and/or have not participated in any ranking events of a similar martial arts organisation for two consecutive years shall be eligible  to participate in the Kurash competition at the Nagoya Asian Games.

Based on the information received to date from the Organising Committee of the Nagoya Asian Games, only five athletes have been identified as currently ineligible under the applicable criteria. These athletes may be replaced by other eligible Late Athlete Replacement (LAR) athletes from the same country.

The IKA will continue to coordinate with the relevant authorities and the Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee to ensure the smooth implementation of this decision and the successful participation of eligible athletes.
