The 22nd African Kurash Championships are being held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 7 to 10 August.
Yesterday, as part of the Championships, a special technical seminar for referees began its work.
The seminar is being led by Ravi Kapoor, Technical Director of the International Kurash Association (IKA), and Teddy Rita, Refereeing Director of the African Kurash Union.
Representatives of all delegations from across the African continent participating in the Championships are attending the seminar. During the sessions, particular attention is being paid to the international Kurash rules, refereeing practice, conducting competitions according to unified standards, as well as ensuring impartial and high-quality management of fights.
Thomas Dunker, President of the African Kurash Union, is also actively participating in the seminar and supporting initiatives aimed at further enhancing the level of Kurash refereeing and the professional capacity of specialists across the continent.
The seminar is becoming not only an important platform for preparing competition referees, but also an important step towards strengthening unified international refereeing standards for Kurash in African countries.
According to the Championships Programme, on 8 August, athletes in the Senior and Cadet categories will compete for continental championship titles.
On 9 August, Juniors and Veterans will compete.
