An official announcement was made at the Ministry of Sports of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the appointment of an Uzbek specialist as the Head Coach of Iran Women’s National Kurash Team.
This significant decision was made possible thanks to the successful negotiations conducted by the General Secretary of the International Kurash Association, Mr Mohammad Reza Nassiri, with the Iranian Ministry of Sports, as well as the close support and assistance of the Kurash Federation of Uzbekistan.
According to the decision, the experienced Uzbek coach Ms Umida Matyakubova will arrive in Iran today and will officially assume her duties. She will lead Iran Women’s National Kurash Team until the conclusion of the 2026 Asian Games.
Speaking at the press conference held on the occasion of the appointment, the Deputy Minister of Sports of Iran expressed his gratitude to all partners who supported this initiative. He noted with great appreciation that a highly qualified coach had been invited from Uzbekistan— from the birthplace of Kurash—and expressed confidence that Ms Umida Matyakubova’s experience would elevate the performance and competitive level of Iran’s women athletes to a new stage.
