
An official meeting was held at the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran between Mr. Mohammad Reza Nassiri, General Secretary of the International Kurash Association (IKA), and Mr. Mahmoud Khosravi-Vafa, President of the National Olympic Committee of Iran and Member of the Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Asia.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Kioumars Hashemi, former Minister of Sport and Youth of Iran, as well as the Head of the International Relations Department of the National Olympic Committee of Iran.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the further development of Kurash in Iran, the expansion of international cooperation, and the organization of major international competitions in the future.
In his remarks, Mr. Mahmoud Khosravi-Vafa stated that Iran had made thorough preparations to host the World Kurash Championships at the highest level. However, due to political tensions in the region and restrictions on international air travel, the country was forced to cancel the event. He also emphasised that once the situation is fully stabilised, Iran will once again be ready to host international Kurash competitions.
For his part, IKA General Secretary Mr. Mohammad Reza Nassiri provided information on the new governance reforms being implemented within the Association, its key strategic priorities, and new initiatives aimed at promoting the global development of Kurash. He also highlighted IKA’s continued efforts to provide comprehensive support to its national federations and to further enhance the international prestige of Kurash.
The parties discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation, implementing joint projects for the development of Kurash in Iran, and organising major international competitions in the country in the future.
