
The 8th Ordinary Congress of the Kurash Confederation of Asia was held in Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan, within the framework of the 15th Asian Senior Kurash Championship.
The Congress was attended by the heads of national federations affiliated with the Kurash Confederation of Asia, officials of the International Kurash Association (IKA), members of the continental confederation’s leadership, and a number of distinguished guests.
The Congress was opened by the President of the Kurash Confederation of Asia, Komil Ruziev. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Sports, and the Tajikistan Kurash Federation for hosting the 15th Asian Championship at a high organisational level. He also emphasised the importance of cooperation and unity in the development of Kurash across the Asian continent.
During the Congress, IKA Vice President Sherzodkhon Kudratkhodja highlighted the growing international status of Kurash and thanked the national federations for their active efforts in promoting and developing the sport.
In accordance with the agenda, the minutes of the 7th Congress were first approved. This was followed by discussions on amendments and additions to the Statutes of the Kurash Confederation of Asia, after which the relevant resolutions were adopted.
A report on the preparations for the 15th Asian Championship was presented by Rakhmatjon Urinov, Vice President of the Tajikistan Kurash Federation and representative of the Championship Organising Committee. The report provided detailed information on the conditions created for the competition, including participant reception and accommodation, transportation, security, and other organisational matters.
In addition, IKA General Secretary Mohammad Reza Nassiri informed Congress participants about ongoing projects aimed at developing Kurash across the continent, regional competitions, and preparations for major events included in the international calendar.
The issue of hosting the 2027 Asian Championship was also discussed during the meeting. Said Zia Dashti, President of the Afghanistan Kurash Federation, proposed Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, as the host city for the next Asian Championship.
In his address, he stated that the Government of Afghanistan and the country’s Ministry of Sports are ready to provide comprehensive support to ensure the championship is held safely and at a high organisational standard.
The proposal was received with interest by the Congress participants. At the same time, it was noted that the final decision on the matter would be officially announced after additional studies and the completion of the necessary agreements.
At the conclusion of the Congress, a number of decisions concerning the activities of the Kurash Confederation of Asia were adopted, and future tasks aimed at further developing Kurash throughout the continent were outlined.
As emphasised during the Congress, the 15th Asian Championship being held in Dushanbe serves not only to identify the strongest Kurash athletes in Asia but also to strengthen sporting cooperation and friendly relations among Asian nations.
