On February 23, 2026, National Kurash Day was celebrated on a grand scale throughout Dominican Republic. On the occasion, lectures, public festivals, refereeing and coaching seminars, as well as meetings with the participation of regional associations that are part of Dominican Kurash Federation (Fedokurash), were organized.

Since 2018, February 23 has been celebrated as National Kurash Day, marking the founding of the Federation. With the support of the national government, the Federation’s Directing Committee has developed a comprehensive program of events, which is being implemented consistently across all regions.

Operating since 1998, Fedokurash today has affiliated associations in several provinces of the country and has established a strong organizational system for the development of Kurash. As a result, this sport has been steadily progressing in the Dominican Republic.

“We hosted the Pan American Championship in 2004 and the World Junior Championship in 2006,” said the Federation’s President, Dr. Israel Agustín Caraballo Jiménez. “For several years now, our country has regularly hosted Pan American Championships. In addition, national championships, as well as refereeing and coaching courses, are organized on a regular basis.”

Among the international achievements, special recognition goes to Audrey Puello Perez, who won a gold medal at the 2023 World Championship held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Today, Fedokurash is a full member of the Pan American Kurash Union and International Kurash Association (IKA). The Federation has also been admitted as a member of the Dominican Olympic Committee, further strengthening its position within the national sports system.

Today in the Dominican Republic, Kurash is becoming not only a sport but also a symbol of national pride and international cooperation.
