The International Kurash Association (IKA) traditionally announces the best of the year in World Kurash every year. However, this year, the award ceremony in accordance with this tradition will be held in February 2026.
According to the IKA Secretary General Mohammad Reza Nassiri, 2025 was full of great achievements and important events for Kurash:
— During the year, Kurash competitions were held in the programs of nearly 30 international tournaments, continental championships and multi-sport games. Also, seminars and qualification exams were organised for Kurash referees, coaches and ITOs in about 10 countries, — he said.
At the same time, changes have occurred due to the postponement of the date of the World Senior Kurash Championship, which was included in the 2025 calendar, to early 2026.
Taking this into account, with the permission of the IKA President, it was decided to announce the “Best of the Year” after the World Championship and the World Series Pro international tournament.
— We consider this decision to be logical and at the same time the most correct solution. Because the World Championship is the most important competition of the year. Within the framework of this championship, the best Kurash player, the owner of the best technique, and winners in a number of other nominations can be determined, — the IKA General Secretary emphasised.
Currently, the Technical Commission of the International Kurash Association, under the leadership of the General Secretary, is conducting the selection and evaluation processes of candidates.
