From May 27 to 31, Douala, the largest city in Cameroon, welcomed outstanding professionals who contribute to the development of the sport of Kurash on the African continent. An International Coaching and Refereeing Seminar was organized here in cooperation with the International Kurash Association (IKA), the International Kurash Institute (IKI), the African Kurash Union, and the Cameroon Kurash Association.
This important event was the next stage in the ongoing strategic efforts to popularize Kurash in Africa and widely promote its best practices. More than 60 professionals from across the continent had the opportunity to further strengthen their knowledge and skills at the seminar.
The seminar was conducted by International specialists – IKA Technical Director Ravi Kapoor, IKI experts Pouresfandiar Mohammadvahid, Rizomat Soliev, and Nuriddin Chorshamiev. The official opening of the event took place on May 28 at the Arena & Academy by Francis Ngannou Sports Complex in Douala. It was attended by representatives of more than 10 countries of the African continent.
In the first part of the program, coaches and referees took part in practical training under the guidance of experienced IKI experts. They gained important knowledge on Kurash techniques, Usuls, and competition evaluation criteria.
The second day of the seminar was dedicated to the theory of Kurash and refereeing rules. In the morning Prof. Pouresfandiar Mohammadvahid conducted a practical session on “Kurash Usuls”. The participants studied in depth the correct performance and technical aspects of different Usuls.
In the afternoon, Mr. Ravi Kapoor, the IKA Technical Director, conducted a master class on refereeing. He presented in detail the International Kurash Association’s refereeing rules, the ranking system, and the ethical standards of referees.
The participants of the seminar actively participated in the debates and got direct answers to their questions from the experts. This event will definitely give a great opportunity to widely popularize Kurash on the African continent and to develop a new generation of specialists as well as to train referees for the upcoming African Championships
