Today, on April 11, the Congress of the European Kurash Confederation was held in Batumi, a city recognized as the tourist center of Georgia.
This major sporting event, with its international significance, attracted Kurash fans not only from Europe, but also from all over the world. Important decisions were adopted during the Congress on new initiatives for the development of sports, new areas of cooperation and future competitions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Congress, the Minister of Sports of Georgia Shalva Gogoladze and the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adkham Ikramov, in their speeches, emphasised the importance of mutual cooperation in achieving high goals in sports. They expressed their views on the new achievements of the European Kurash Confederation and changes in the field of sports. The ministers spoke, in particular, about their plans to popularise Kurash among young people and support it at the state level.
The Congress was also attended by the President of the European Kurash Confederation, Merampi Iliadis, Vice-President of the International Kurash Association, Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov, IKA General Secretary Mohammad Reza Nassiri, Head of the IKA Administration Mansur Mirzaev, Confederation leaders, Presidents of European Kurash Federations and delegates.
The calendar of international and regional competitions to be held in 2026 was also discussed. It was announced that the Confederation would issue an additional official announcement on the dates of the competitions to be accepted and agreements with the participating countries by the end of this year.
During the Congress, clear instructions were given on the development of the necessary documents that meet the requirements of the International Kurash Association and AIMS and their submission by national federations in due time. It was noted that this requirement is being adopted, especially in European countries, in order to further develop sports infrastructure and adapt to international standards in holding competitions.
The issue of participation in the European Games 2027,also became one of the main topics of the Congress. The President of the Confederation provided information on the work being carried out to officially include Kurash in the program of the Games.
A training plan for the national teams was also developed, and new mechanisms for the development of mutual coordination and cooperation between the participating countries were established.
At the end of the congress, various proposals from national federations were considered. The new initiatives put forward by the federations, the social significance of sports and the ideas for further development of Kurash among youth were warmly welcomed by the delegates. It is expected that the new initiatives proposed by Uzbekistan and Georgia will help not only European, but also World Kurash Move to a new level.
The topic of the day was the election for the European Kurash Confederation Directing Committee, where 9 countries were selected in Europe by majority of votes.
