Kurash competitions were organized for the first time as part of the 40th National Youth Games in Chonburi (Thailand).
The inclusion of Kurash in this prestigious sport, initiated by the Sports Authority of Thailand and the host province of Chonburi, was an important step towards developing young Kurash athletes in the country, as well as training them as future members of the national team.
Intensive qualifying tournaments were held across the country to participate in the competition. Young athletes from all 77 provinces of Thailand competed in five regional selection tournaments to qualify for the main event in Chonburi.
The young Kurash athletes who took part in the competition demonstrated their skills in the following weight categories:
Men: -46 kg, -50 kg, -55 kg, -60 kg, -66 kg, +73 kg
Women: -40 kg, -44 kg, -48 kg, -52 kg, -57 kg, +63 kg
The national round is being held from March 30 to April 2, 2025. The competition was attended by 151 strongest young athletes from 29 regions – 83 men and 68 women.
More than 60 experienced coaches and about 30 referees took part in the competition.
The National Youth Games of Thailand is the country’s largest sporting event. These games, organised for the Fortieth time, are held at the state level to discover and support young athletes, to develop mass sports, and to provide a reserve for national teams.
For reference: At the initiative of the Kurash Association of Thailand, Kurash was included in the program of several prestigious games of the country, such as the “Nonsi Games” and the “Universty Games”.
