Cairo, Egypt – The work of national federations is critical to the global development of Kurash, and the International Kurash Association (IKA) is committed to providing unwavering support to these federations. To further strengthen collaboration and enhance the development of the sport, IKA President Haidar Farman recently visited Egypt, a country with a rich history in martial arts and sports.

During his visit, IKA President Haidar Farman held a productive meeting with Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, at the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. The meeting was attended by IKA Vice President Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov, IKA Head of Administration Mansur Mirzaev, and Mohammad Sobih, President of the Egyptian Kickboxing and Kurash Federation.

Minister Sobhy warmly welcomed the IKA delegation and reaffirmed Egypt’s position as one of Africa’s leading countries in the field of sports. He highlighted the fact that various wrestling disciplines, including Kurash, have long been supported by the Egyptian state, and that Kurash athletes from Egypt have shown exceptional international results in recent years.

“I am pleased to know that Egyptian Kurash athletes have been making great strides on the international stage, and we will continue to support the growth of this sport,” said Minister Sobhy.

In response, IKA President Haidar Farman expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s hospitality and support for Kurash. He noted that although Kurash was officially established in Egypt in 2022, it is already experiencing significant growth with the backing of the government. He also praised the organization of key events, such as the 2023 African Kurash Championship and the continental stage of the World Series Pro (WSP) international tournament in Cairo.

Notable achievements by Egyptian athletes were also highlighted, including Nada Ashraf’s bronze medal at the 2023 World Kurash Championship in Turkmenistan and Basel Eldeb’s recognition as the recipient of the IKA Award for the Best Kurash Technique of the Year.

During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the future of Kurash in Egypt, including the organization of upcoming international tournaments, seminars and further development initiatives. Both sides agreed on a number of strategic plans to continue expanding Kurash’s presence and impact in the country.
