A productive meeting was recently held at the National Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan, where key figures gathered to discuss the inclusion of Kurash in the upcoming Asian Para Youth Games (AYG) 2025 in Tashkent. The meeting was attended by Mr. Jamshidbek Khasanov, Deputy Chairman of the NPC of Uzbekistan; Mr. Reza Nassiri, General Secretary of IKA; and members of the Uzbekistan Kurash Federation.
The meeting, which lasted about one hour, focused on various aspects of introducing Kurash into the AYG Para Games, with particular attention given to two classes of competition for blind athletes: K1 and K2. Mr. Khasanov presented a detailed explanation of the classification system for athletes with visual impairments, and also discussed the steps for Kurash to become officially recognized by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).
In addition, it was agreed that a test classification event for Kurash would be held in Tashkent in 2025. This event will allow countries interested in participating in the AYG Para Games to bring their athletes for classification and to gain further insight into the competition system.
As noted in previous reports, the rules for Kurash in the para-athletics context are currently under review by IKA Technical Committee and the International Kurash Institute and will be announced soon. These developments are part of ongoing efforts to ensure Kurash’s successful inclusion in the Paralympic movement and its accessibility to athletes with disabilities.
