The Pakhlavon Makhmud International tournament for the prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was organized last year in Khorezm, Uzbekistan.
This traditional tournament has been organized in Iran several times.
Pakhalovon Makhmud was a great scholar and famous kurash athlete born in Khorezm, Central Asia. He honored kurash, first of all, as an example of human maturity. Kurash was respected for kurash athletes’ physical strength, stature, combativeness, dexterity on the one hand and on the other hand kurash athlete’s behavior in a wide circle, morals, moral image, humanity feelings towards the opponent people have a special place. Therefore, during his time, Pakhlavon Makhmud was called with the high name “Puryorivali” (the best pakhlavon of pakhlavons).
The International tournament dedicated to the memory of Pakhlavon Makhmud has been included in the calendar plan of the International Kurash Association for this year.
This tournament is scheduled to be held on April 11-13 in Esfarayen, Iran.
Esfarayen is one of the oldest cities of Northern Khorasan.
A lot of great kurash athletes have come out of Esfarayen. They are famous not only in Iran but also all over the world. Elyas Ali Akbari, the head coach of the Iranian national kurash team, Asian and World champion, winner of the Asian Games, is one of Esfarayen’s famous athletes.
The kurash matches will take place in the Zeinal-Khan, Traditional Kurash Arena with a capacity of 50,000 spectators.
Zeinal-Khan Arena historical sports complex, considered a historical memorial complex, is one of the symbols of the city of Esfarayen.
The tournament will be held between men and kurash athletes will compete in 2 weight categories. 2 athletes from each country can participate in the -90kg and +90kg weight categories.
Winners will be awarded with money, diplomas and medals. Also, the tournament hosted by Esfarayen is included in the IKA rating system, and participants and winners can earn valuable points in their ranking.
