Kurash coaches are at the center of our attention!
Dortguly Tejenov is the head coach of the Turkmenistan national kurash team. Honored sports coach in Turkmenistan
I am 60 years old. Most people prefer to retire at this age and spend more time with their families. Indeed, when I was young, I thought that I would enjoy a comfortable life, at home in my retirement age. But a person who has devoted his entire life to sports, who has turned training 3 times a day into a way of life, is unable to sleep at home.
When I was studying at school, I was also interested in watching the training of the famous Sambo club in Turkmenistan. I attended a sambo club. I have participated in kurash competitions at weddings and holidays. I have achieved great success. I held the honor of the Soviet Union Sambo Champion. I had received the Soviet Union’s Master of Sports title. I completed my military service in Uzbekistan, and at that time I became seriously interested in kurash.
I took part in many tournaments and competitions in kurash.
My career as a coach has been mainly with Sambo and kurash. Many of my athletes are winners of World and Asian championships.
In 2022, there was a change in the leadership of the Turkmenistan Kurash Federation. The sports ministry of the country invited me to coach the national team.
We have held national championships since the start of our career to select the most talented and experienced athletes. The winners received invitations to the national team.
Currently, there are about 30 athletes in our team.
Our national team participated with 13 athletes and took home a total of 3 medals at the World Senior Kurash Championship held in Pune last year. They deservedly defended the honor of our country with 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
At the Asian Championship held in Hangzhou in April of this year, our team was awarded with 7 bronze and 1 silver medal. Our results are improving day by day.
Our main goal now is to win gold medals at the Asian Games and the World Championship to be held in Ashgabat.
Of course, our preparation also aligns with our goal.
Since the beginning of the year, we have organized 5 national and international training sessions. Our team took part in the international training camp twice in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan.
Currently, we are conducting training sessions in the newly built Arkadag city in Ashgabat.
It is notable that this city was recently constructed and that, for the first time, athletes were allowed entry based on the decision of the President of the country.
Extensive preparations are being made for the World Kurash Championship in Turkmenistan.
I hope that the achievements of our national team at the Asian Games and the World Championship will be a worthy gift for Turkmenistan.
