Yesterday, on August 27, the Kurash competitions of the Pan American Kurash Week Program started.
The Pan American Kurash Championship and the World Series Pro Tournament for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Prize in the magnificent Olympic Center of Santo Domingo were full of intense debates.
At first, the official opening ceremony of the competitions took place. The President of the Dominican Olympic Committee Dr. Jose Joaquin Puello, IKA Vice-President Ziyoviddin Khodjiniyazov, IKA Vice-President, President of the Pan American Kurash Union Jaime Casanova, IKA General Secretary Mohammad Reza Nassiri, the Head of IKA Administration Mansur Mirzaev, Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Kurash Federation Bakhtiyor Kadirov and UKF official Sardor Karimov attended the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Puello noted that Pan American Kurash Week events are being organized at a high level. He added that Kurash has advanced significantly in the Dominican Republic in recent years.
The competition, which brought together athletes from dozens of countries, was declared open by Dr. Puello.
After the intense competitions of the championship, the names of the winners and prize-winners were determined. In terms of collecting significant medals, the host team dominated over all the participants.
Dominican Israel Caraballo and Tomas Santana won the gold medals in the 73 and 81 kg weight categories, respectively, at the Pan American Championship took place as part of the Pan American Kurash Week.
Caraballo dominated the 73 kg weight class by defeating Costa Rican Brando Morales. Third place went to Jose Garces from Venezuela.
Tomas Santana beat Mexican Juan Salina in the 81-kilogram weight class, while Dominican Ricardo Rees took third place.
In over 100 kilograms, Jesus Rodrigues from Mexico won over Dominican Jose Raymond Jimenez.
Likewise, Costa Rican participants Gainer and Daniel Diaz won first place in the 60 and 66 kg weight categories, respectively. Gilbert De Leon took second place in the 66 kg category.
Evelyn Cuevas, representative of the Dominican Republic, defeated Costa Rican Daniela Delgado in the final in the women’s 70-kilogram weight category and won the Gold Medal. And Daniela Delgado was awarded a silver medal. Edien Mondelli of Haiti was the winner in the 57 kg category and Darienli Contreras of the Dominican Republic was the runner-up.
Andrea Guillen from Mexico took the first place in the 78 kg category, and Ruth Montero from the Dominican Republic took the second place. Audrey Puello from the Dominican Republic won first place in the 87 kg weight category and Matilde Almonte was the second.

The Dominican athletes did not miss the lead in the World Series Pro tournament for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Prize.
Tomas Belen in the 81 kg, Gabriel Vizcaino in the 90 kg, and Audrey Puello in the women’s category all won gold medals for Dominica.
Dominican Republic placed first, Costa Rican athletes took second, and Mexican athletes took third in total team medal count.
