As previously reported, an agreement was reached between IKA President Mr. Haider Farman and the President of the Association of African National Olympic Committees Mr. Mustafa Berraf on the inclusion of kurash in the program of the African Youth Games.
The African Games will be held in August 2023 in Brazzeville in Congo.
The Secretary General of the International Kurash Association, Technical Director Mohammad Reza Nassiri visited the Congo to discuss technical issues related to these games.
On the first day of the visit, a meeting was held with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Civic Education of the Republic of the Congo, Mr. Hugues Nguelondele. During the meeting, many issues related to the participation of kurash in the African Games were discussed.
Minister said that kurash is one of the most popular sports and major kurash competitions are regularly held in the Congo and supported at the government level.
He expressed gratitude for the gift of Gilam directly presented to the Congolese Kurash Federation. He noted that in the future there are plans to participate in international competitions and visit the homeland of kurash.
Congolese athlete Ama Modest Ngambulu, who participated in the World Senior Kurash Championship in the weight category up to 100 kg in India on November 23-28, admitted that winning a bronze medal further increased interest in kurash in the country.
During the meeting Mr. Nassiri spoke about kurash, activities of IKA and the development of kurash on the African continent.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister was presented with a special gift sent by IKA President Haidar Farman.
At the next stage of the visit, Minister of Sports organized a visit to places where kurash competitions could be held in the program of the African Games. The sports facilities were inspected by IKA Technical Director Reza Nassiri and specialists of the Congo Kurash Federation.
Initially, sports complex “Palais des sport de Kintele” was inspected. This complex is one of the largest sports facilities. The territory of the complex is distinguished by the presence of swimming pools, tennis courts, additional playgrounds for sports training, hotels and other infrastructure.
The next destination was the Nicole Oba Sports Complex. The complex has good conditions and is located in the very center of the city, where international kurash competitions, national and continental championships have been repeatedly held. The events of the International kurash week of the African Union Kurash were also held at the Nicole Oba sports complex on December 15-21.
The next sports complex was Etienne Mongha, one of the best sports complexes in the country. It is large enough to put 4 gilams and has three additional halls.
These sports facilities meet international standards and have the opportunity to hold major sporting events at a high level.
Technical requirements and suggestions that should be paid attention to in addition to responsibilities were expressed by the Technical Director of IKA Mohammad Reza Nassiri.
