The beautiful and attractive city of Santo Domingo was founded by Christopher Columbus’ brother Bartolomeo on Sunday in 1496 and therefore received the name “Holy Sunday” (in spanish, Domingo – Sunday). According to some sources, this city was named after Saint Dominic.
Santo Domingo is considered to be the oldest permanent settlement in America founded by Europeans. In the 16th century, the city was the capital of all the Spanish colonies in the New world, the residence of the Spanish king.
Santo Domingo is located in the south of the Dominican Republic, in the southeastern part of the island of Haiti. The city occupies part of the flat Caribbean coast. In an area with a humid and tropical climate, the average monthly air temperature ranges from +24 to +27 °C throughout the year. There is very little precipitation in December-April. Natural plants are represented by very rare, mostly small-leaved shrubs characteristic of the savanna zone.
It is noteworthy that the kurash gains popularity in this country, one of the most picturesque areas of South America.
This can be found out both by the continental championship, which is organized at the last moment, and by tournaments of various levels.
For information, the International Kurash Week in the Dominican Republic was held in June this year by the Pan-American Kurash Union.
Within the framework of the Pan-American Continental Championship, an international coaching and refereeing seminar, exhibitions and competitions in kurash, as well as continental kurash championships on the beach were organized at a high level.
Summing up the results of the year, on December 8-15, with the support of the IKA, Pan-American Kurash Union in partnership with the International Kurash Institute will hold seminars on Kurash in two stages.
