The Dominican Republic has become the center of the Pan-American continent for kurash.
The Government of the Dominican Republic and the Dominican Kurash Federation regularly work to popularize kurash in the country.
Since this year, kurash sport competitions have been officially included in the program of the Universiade of the country.
Students from all higher educational institutions of the country in about 20 sports will take part in the Games organized by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ministry of Education, National Olympic Movement of the Dominican Republic.
Yesterday, the Universiade Kurash competitions were held in the Olympic Center of Santo Domingo named after Juan Pablo Duarte.
The opening ceremony was attended by officials of the Organizing Committee of the Games, Ministry of Sports and Recreation and Pan-American Kurash Union, who wished the athletes good luck.
Within the Universiade, more than 100 kurash athletes from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Technological University of Santiago (Utesa), the Southern Technological University (Utesur), the National University of the Gospel (UNEV), the Northern Catholic University (UCNE), the American Technological University (ITLA), the Institute of Advanced Training of Teachers of Higher Educational Institutions named Senorita Salome Urena (Isfodosu), Catholic University of Santo Domingo (UCSD) and Loyola University of Specialized Studies, competed for the title of champion.
At the end of the competition, the winners were named, organizers presented medals, diplomas and cash prizes.
For reference, since 2018, February 23 has been declared Kurash Day by the Government of the Dominican Republic. On this day, kurash events, seminars and competitions are held in all regions of the country.
