In the city of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) of the Republic of South Africa, the African Kurash Union held a seminar on refereeing and coaching.
Seminar was attended by about 30 kurash Referees from 12 countries of the continent.
Instructors of the seminar were President of African Kurash Union Thomas Dunker and Guy Blanchard AMBETO.
Seminar, organized on the basis of practical and theoretical trainings, assessed the knowledge of participants based on the rules of International Kurash Association and the E-Kurash program designed by IKA.
From now African Kurash Union will choose a referee based on the newly developed 4-level system.
– Level 1: Participation in referee courses;
– Level 2: Refereeing in national club championships;
– Level 3: Management of regional and departmental kurash competitions;
– Level 4: Refereeing in national championships;
Referees who have reached these levels will be eligible to participate in 1-Star refereeing seminars.
Thomas Dunker, President of the African Kurash Union:
I have been responsible for the development of kurash on the African continent for many years. Our main goal is to introduce and popularize kurash in all regions of the continent.
The entertainment of the kurash will be determined by the actions of referees.
During the seminar, we also paid special attention to this aspect. National Federations of AKU are multilingual. Therefore, it is very difficult for us to implement a single language. Even during the seminar we had to use Spanish, French, Portuguese, English.
The advantage of the IKA Kurash manual also lies in the availability of instructions and practical illustrations. This makes it easy for people who speak any foreign language to understand.
We plan to keep on holding regular coaching seminars on kurash. We have agreed to hold kurash seminars in the Democratic Republic of Congo in December this year.
