The XV World Kurash Championships are set to take place in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, from 4 to 9 November 2026. With preparations now entering their final stage, the Championships are expected to bring together nearly 400 participants from 67 countries, potentially setting a new record in the history of the World Kurash Championships.
The previous record for the highest number of participating countries was set at the XIII World Kurash Championships, held in Pune, India, in 2022, when representatives from 62 countries took part in the event.
Preparations are currently under way to ensure the successful organisation of the Championships at the highest international standard. The Organising Committee, comprising representatives of the International Kurash Association (IKA), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Kurash Federation, the Astana City Administration, Astana Art Group and several partner organisations, is working closely to finalise all arrangements. Particular attention is being paid to organisational matters, welcoming and accommodating participants, coordinating the programme of events and ensuring that the Championships meet international standards.
The programme of the XV World Kurash Championships will feature not only sporting competitions but also a series of important events dedicated to the international governance and development of Kurash. These will include a meeting of the IKA Directing Committee, the 22nd IKA Ordinary Congress, as well as international seminars and examinations for coaches and referees.
The Kurash competitions will take place on 7–8 November at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace in Astana, where athletes from across the world will compete for the prestigious titles of World Kurash Champions.
The International Kurash Association warmly invites all National Federations, athletes, coaches, referees and Kurash enthusiasts to be part of this historic event.
