The International Military Sports Council (CISM) has published a special article on its official website dedicated to the conclusion of the 1st CISM World Military Kurash Challenge held in Tashkent.
The article describes the competition as Kurash’s debut on the international military sports stage and highlights it as an important milestone in CISM’s history. It notes that the Challenge, held from 10 to 15 September, served not only as a sporting competition, but also as a platform for cultural activities and international dialogue.

CISM emphasised that Kurash is an integral part of the history and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and the peoples of Central Asia, noting that the sport’s values of respect, nobility and fair play are in line with the organisation’s philosophy of “Friendship Through Sport”.
The article also gives particular attention to the message of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Lieutenant General Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov. He highlighted Kurash as one of the most ancient forms of martial arts and stressed that the competition would contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and trust among the Armed Forces of different countries.
CISM Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia highly praised Uzbekistan’s hospitality, organisation and the conditions provided for the participants during the Challenge. He noted that the introduction of Kurash into the CISM sports family marked an important new chapter for international military sport.

The article also notes that the fundamental principles of Kurash — respect, discipline, honour and fair play — are closely aligned with CISM’s objectives of promoting peace, solidarity and mutual understanding through sport.
CISM described the success of the inaugural World Military Kurash Challenge in Tashkent as the result of effective cooperation between the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the International Kurash Association, national sporting organisations and the CISM Secretariat.
